Nourishing Mondays: Greek Turkey Sliders with Mint-Yogurt Sauce

Reported by, the online wholesale food marketplace-

Grilling outdoors is an essential summertime activity. Some of our fondest memories are created while gathered in a backyard or on a patio, surrounded by loved ones and friends, and eating a freshly-grilled burger.

Summer’s heat also makes us crave lighter foods and fresh flavors. This recipe for Greek turkey sliders is the best of both worlds: a twist on the classic barbecue staple that won’t weigh you down but will instead leave you refreshed. Plus, the burgers are small enough for you to enjoy two or three at a time.

Infused with feta cheese and flavorful herbs and spices, served in a pita pocket bun, and topped with cool mint yogurt sauce, these sliders are the perfect summer treat.

6 medium pitas, sliced in half

For the Burgers

1 lb lean ground turkey
1 egg
½ cup oats
½ yellow onion, chopped
½ green pepper, chopped
1/3 cup crumbled feta cheese
1 tsp dijon mustard
¾ tsp salt
½ tsp black pepper
2 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp dried oregano

For the Sauce

6 oz. low-fat plain greek yogurt
½ cup diced cucumber
5-6 fresh mint leaves, thinly sliced
garlic powder, salt, pepper to taste

Mix all burger ingredients except mustard, egg, and turkey in a large bowl. Once combined, add the remaining ingredients and mix well. You might want to use your hands to mix everything together, but  remember to wash them after handling the raw turkey. Shape the mixture into 12 patties. Cook on the grill over medium-high heat, until internal temperature reaches 165F.

While the burgers cook, stir all sauce ingredients together in a medium bowl.

When the burgers finish cooking, place each one inside a pita pocket and top with yogurt sauce.

Makes 12 servings.
